South East Manipur College staff gets Rs. 218 per month – Governing body

Imphal,Oct.7: Staffs of the South East Manipur College, Chandel manage to get a meagre sum of rupees 218 per month even after an MoU has been signed with the government of Manipur for conversion of the college into a full-fledged government  college on March 12, 2003. This was stated by R Jindasing, Chairman, Governing Body of South East Manipur College (SEMCO),in a press conference held on Monday.“At present there are 90 staffs in SEMCO and the meagre honorarium is being distributed from the grant-in-aid sanctioned in December 2011”, said R Jindasing.He said, the South East Manipur College, Komlathabi was established on January 2, 1981 and affiliated to Manipur University in 1983 and was granted permanent affiliation in 1992, the college has opened courses on both the Arts and Science streams upto the degree level and is recognized by the University Grants Commission in 1994. The college has taken up a number of schemes and projects for the academic and infrastructural growth and development of the college, some of which are construction of Library Building and acquisition of books and journals, construction of Girls’ Hostel, Teachers’ Quarters, Classrooms, and acquisition of laboratory requirements, computers, Xerox Machine, laptops, projectors, generators, etc. with the financial assistance of the UGC. But while extending Grant-in-Aid in 1987 by the then Govt. of Manipur, SEMCO was left out and remained as a neglected college for more than three decades, Jindasing added.He farther said that the South East Manipur College, Komlathabi, remained as a long neglected college all the time. SEMCO has 1115 students and this number increased to 1510 in the current academic session 2014-15.R Jindasing draws the attention of chief minister for consideration of the problems being faced by the college in view of the academic performance and enrolment strength for the last three four years,.
