South Asian countries to take part in Manipur’s Chinjak Festival

The Innovative Youth Society (IYS) is all set to organise the 5th Chinjak Festival from Nov. 06 to 16 at the riverside of Pishumthong Ningom Leikai YLL ground, Pisum. Food stalls from South East Asian countries will be taking part in the Festival.Speaking to media persons, Managing Director, Chinjak Festival 2014 and Secretary of IYS, Khuraijam Athouba said that the festival aims to promote Manipuri cuisines to the people from other countries and gain knowledge and advantage from them and also get a taste of the international cuisines. There will be 40 unique Manipuri stalls accompanied by 5 international stalls from Tibet, Korea, Singapore, Thailand and Myanmar. Athouba further said that the youth of the state seemed to dislike the traditional cuisines of Manipur and in fact in various fast food stores the traditional food is not included in the menu. The festival also aims to spread the message of ‘save Nambul’ in order to promote the river Nambul which is highly contaminated and also a very important river which lies at the hub of Imphal city, said Athouba. The international food stalls include the menu of Lambhi and Momos from Tibet, Kimchi, Kimbap and Samgyeopsal from Korea, Sharkfin soup, Singapore curry chicken rice, etc from Singapore, Thai Tom Yam Kung from Thailand, Japanese Curry Rice and Japanese curry noodle soup and Awa from Myanmar.
