Imphal, July 10:

In a stern move against the growing drug menace, the proscribed armed group Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) Kangleipak has announced decisive measures to combat the use of intoxicants, particularly Heroin No. 4, to safeguard the youth of Manipur.
M.C. Yaiphabi, Secretary of Publicity and Organization for SOREPA, issued a statement highlighting the group’s commitment to protecting the future generations of the state. SOREPA has called upon fifty (individuals) who are involved in drug related crimes, irrespective of their communities, to surrender by July 20, 2024, for discussions on the issue. Failure to comply will result in severe consequences as part of SOREPA’s war against drugs.
The statement detailed the reasons behind this initiative, emphasizing the destructive impact of drug mafias on society. The organization highlighted the long-standing struggle against illegal drugs by state authorities, women’s groups, and other organizations. It pointed out the alarming trend of schoolchildren as young as those in Classes 6 and 7 falling prey to narcotics.
SOREPA also raised concerns about van and auto drivers allegedly distributing drugs to students, urging parents to closely monitor their children’s activities and associations. The statement lamented the rise in drug addiction, which has led to increased violence, crime, and social decay, and highlighted the moral and social degradation caused by drugs.
SOREPA emphasized the urgent need to address the issue, noting that the drug mafia’s influence has exacerbated the current unrest in Manipur. The group decried the exploitation of drugged individuals for criminal activities and the easy availability of drugs due to poppy plantations in the hills.
To combat this pervasive problem, SOREPA plans to identify and stop those running drug cartels. The organization has called on the people of Manipur to unite in this fight against drugs, encouraging men, women, mothers, and brothers to collaborate in their efforts to eradicate this threat.
