The Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), Kangleipak, has announced a general strike across Manipur on October 15 from 5 am to 5 pm. A statement by SOREPA Publicity and Organisation Secretary MC Yaifabi said religious functions, medical services, media, and emergency services will be exempted.
The party condemned the 1949 annexation of Kangleipak/Manipur, noting that while the Manipur National Assembly had opposed it, some collaborators welcomed it. SOREPA claimed their descendants continue to pose as patriots publicly but adopt a servile stance in Delhi.
SOREPA emphasised that national socialism is crucial for achieving political independence and international socialism. The party stressed that the liberation movement of Kangleipak/Manipur seeks total sovereignty, distinguishing it from limited internal self-determination promoted by imperial powers.
Criticising India’s current political agenda, SOREPA said the “idea of India” has shifted to the “idea of Hindutva,” citing the RSS centenary celebrations as evidence of neo-colonial ambitions backed by Hindu capitalists.
The party urged the people of Kangleipak/Manipur to recognise India’s neo-colonialism, maintain national identity, and advance the liberation movement.
The strike on October 15 is intended as a reminder of the annexation and a call for collective action to preserve the state’s sovereignty and heritage.
