Imphal, Jan 20:

The proscribed Socialist Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (SOREPA) has announced a boycott of India’s Republic Day on January 26, 2025, and called for a 13-hour total shutdown across the region, including Manipur, from 4 am to 5 pm on the same day.
MC Yaiphabi, Secretary of Publicity and Organization of SOREPA, stated that the group supports strikes, shutdowns, boycotts, and protests organized by groups in Western South East Asia (WESEA) and Kashmir against the Indian Union.
SOREPA is protesting the central government, claiming that Manipur was forcibly annexed on October 15, 1949, and reduced to a Part-C State of India after its independence under the Manipur Constitution Act of 1947.
The outfit clarified that emergency services such as fire, water, electricity, medical services, religious ceremonies, and media operations would remain unaffected by the shutdown.
The group also paid homage to those who sacrificed their lives for the unity of the region and extended wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured while defending it.
