Social activist Malem Thongam has announced a plan to organise a peace campaign covering all 16 districts of Manipur.
He stated that an application has once again been submitted through the Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur to the Manipur Government seeking permission to conduct the initiative.
According to the plan, a Peace Solo Ride Expedition will be undertaken from March 12 to April 15, covering a distance of about 1,590 km over 35 days. The expedition aims to spread the message of peace across all 16 districts of the state.
Thongam said that earlier on March 2 he had submitted permission letters to the Chief Minister and the Governor seeking support from the state government to ensure the smooth conduct of the campaign. However, as no response has been received so far, the request has again been forwarded through the office of Bishnupur Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam to the State Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas.
He further informed that the ride is planned to begin from Lamangdong Keithel in Bishnupur district on March 12 and will conclude at Ibuthou Marjing Laikol (Temple) located at Heingang in Imphal East district.
Thongam also stated that arrangements are being made to flag off the ride at around 1 pm on March 12. Appealing to the public, he urged people from all communities of the state to extend support and cooperation so that the initiative to promote peace in Manipur can be carried out successfully.
