SKS workshop concludes with classical dance production ‘Divaras’

A 20-day workshop organised by Sangeet Kala Sangam (SKS) under CMAT initiative concluded today with the staging of Divaras, a classical dance production, at the organisation’s auditorium at Khurai Lamlong in Imphal East.

Speaking as chief guest, Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar appreciated SKS for its sustained efforts to preserve and promote traditional art forms passed down through generations. He described Divaras as a promising production and urged the organisation to continue developing quality performances under the CMAT initiative.

He said Divaras represents one of the five major forms of Raas Leela and is traditionally performed in the evenings at the historic Govindajee Temple during the reign of Maharaja Churachand. He stressed that preserving and passing on traditional art forms to younger generations was essential to preventing the loss of Manipur’s cultural heritage.

SKS president N. Babuton presided over the concluding function, while retired Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) Pradhan Guru and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Arambam Tombinou attended as guest of honour.

Artists of SKS presented Divaras as the concluding production of the workshop.
