Tension briefly flared along the southeastern boundary of Sinakeithei Village yesterday morning after a group of armed Kuki militants allegedly crossed into the village’s territorial limits, triggering a short but intense exchange of fire with local defenders.
According to the Media Cell of the Sinakeithei Village Authority, the intrusion occurred at around 9:00 AM when armed militants crossed the Ihang River and advanced deeper into the village’s southeastern flank. The intruders reportedly moved close enough to be heard from the southernmost lookout bunker maintained by village volunteers.
Village defenders stationed at the bunker fired a warning shot in an attempt to deter further encroachment. However, when the militants responded to the probing shot, the situation escalated into a brief exchange of gunfire. The militants subsequently retreated across the river, bringing the confrontation to an end without reported civilian casualties.
The Village Authority clarified that the incident did not occur near any Kuki agricultural fields or civilian settlements, stressing that no civilians were present in the area at the time of the confrontation. The clarification was issued amid concerns that misinformation or incomplete reporting could distort the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Highlighting the prevailing security sensitivities in the region, the authority reiterated that Sinakeithei Village maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy against any form of territorial intrusion. Village defenders, the statement added, remain on heightened alert and are prepared to respond decisively to any perceived threat.
The village leadership affirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding territorial integrity and ensuring the security of residents, warning that any unauthorized entry—whether by armed groups or civilians—would invite immediate defensive action.
