Ukhrul, Jan 24:
The Sihai Khunou Village Assembly has demanded immediate clarification regarding a recent ‘clarification’ issued in the name of the Sihai Khunou Village Authority and published in a local newspaper. The assembly has labeled the statement as highly misleading and distorted.
During a press conference in Ukhrul town on Monday, Mark Shimray, the speaker of the village assembly, briefed the media. He stated that the clarification, jointly signed by village chairman Ngathingpam P. Shimray and secretary H. Shimreingam, claimed that the Sihai Khunou general public meeting on January 4 had unanimously reaffirmed the village’s headmanship.
Shimray, who chaired the public assembly, strongly rejected this baseless claim and demanded an immediate clarification of the false statement. He emphasized that distorting facts for personal gain is not only defamatory towards him but also betrays the entire village.
Shimray clarified that there was no adoption or reaffirmation of the headmanship resolution at the public assembly on January 4. He emphasized that the general public and assembly records serve as proof of this fact.
He further stated that the published clarification was an attempt to distort facts and mislead the villagers.
Shimray also pointed out that the village chairman has no authority to issue or publish official clarifications regarding assembly matters. He believes that the chairman’s actions demonstrate bias towards one party involved in the long-standing dispute over the village’s legal sub-headmanship.
Shimray stressed the importance of clarifying the matter to prevent further misinformation and misunderstanding among the villagers. He urged the responsible parties to address the issue truthfully.
