Imphal, Mar 4:
Shiv Sena Manipur President M. Tombi Singh has strongly condemned the opposition of Kuki CSOs, including ITLF and COTU, to the directives issued by the Union Home Minister, calling it a sign of lawlessness. He urged the government to take a firm stand to demonstrate that the country is governed by the rule of law.
Speaking to reporters at the party’s office in Babupara, Tombi stressed the critical role of National Highways as the lifeline of the state, highlighting the severe difficulties faced by small traders and daily wage earners due to disruptions along these routes. He stated that many traders have lost access to their livelihoods, pushing them into extreme hardship. Given the suffering of the people, he welcomed the Centre’s directive to reopen the highways and called for serious action against the high-handed response of Kuki CSOs to the government’s decision.
He further pointed out that creating disturbances on highways under various pretexts is unacceptable, as it directly affects people’s day-to-day lives. The Centre’s assurance to ensure free movement on National Highways from March 8 should be strictly enforced, he said, while criticizing the continued demand for a separate administration by Kuki CSOs. He cautioned that persistent insistence on this demand could further escalate tensions in the region.
Referring to the Union Home Minister’s recent remarks, Tombi asserted that the Indian government has made it clear that Manipur will not be divided. He added that the Kuki CSOs’ actions, defying law and order, are under close scrutiny by the Centre and urged the government to take a firm stance against any attempts to disrupt the administration.
