Jiribam, Oct. 10:

The shifting of the Jiri river course has wiped out vast areas of Manipur land on the Assam side.
The land of Manipur which was cut off by the Jiri river in the previous flood had been claimed by the people of Assam as their land. The land is once located at Khusoi thuk of Kamranga Muslim Village under Hilghat Gram Panchayat of Jiribam District. More than hundred bigas of Manipur State land were now cut off by Jiri river and deposited on the other side of the river which is adjacent to the Namdailong and Lakhinagar villages of Lakhipur Sub-division, Assam.
Speaking with media persons, the local resident of Kamranga village, Jiribam L. Bilaks Meetei said due to the flood more than 100 bigas of Kamranga Muslim Village land were cut off by Jiri river which is the patta land of Manipur State. Due to such catastrophe, the fate of the said landowner were remain indecisive at present. As the locals of Assam claimed the said cut-off land of Assam state and the people of Kamranga village were restricted to enter the land.
He appealed to the Manipur State governments and concerned authorities for their consideration into the matter and to bring the solution of land dispute, unless such erosion of Jiri river will recede the Manipur Map geographically.
