The 18th Foundation Day of Sheihek Sheireng Sheipal Shemgat Lup(SHEIPAL) was celebrated today at the Loktak Hall of Manipur Press Club. The event was attended by Thangjam Arunkumar Singh, MLA Wangkhei AC as Chief Guest, Dr. Athokpam Kholchandra, President SHEIPAL as President and Dr. Kshetri Tama, Ex. Upadhyaksha, Imphal East ZP, Dr. Yaikhomba Taorem, Managing Director of Angel Children Hospital and Vaccination Centre, Dr. Kiran Yendrembam, Social Activist as Guests of Honour.
The event started with a welcome address by Rakesh Naorem, Editor SHEIPAL and keynote address by KC Gita, Secretary SHEIPAL. As a part of the 18th Foundation Day celebration two awards, Chaheesigi Sheirengba 2023 and 2024(Lifetime Achievement Award) in memory of Khomdram Bidhu and Leimakhubi Devi were awarded to Nandalal Roy and Mayanglambam Sumati respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Thangjam Arunkumar stated that the song is related to the medical field, emphasizing that the script of the song is the most important aspect. He also appreciated SHEIPAL for recognizing the songwriters. He noted that song scripts from the past year differ significantly from those of today. When listening to older songs, such as love or patriotic songs, they evoke certain thoughts and convey messages to society. He suggested that young writers should seek advice from senior pioneers. He also highlighted that Manipuri is an ancient language and is included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, which is why the Indian government recognizes it. Our rich culture needs to be preserved.
Also, awardees of SHEIPAL Dr. Kshetrimayum Subadani, Ngangom Norendrajit and Rakesh Naorem were felicitated as a part of the celebration. Dr. Thokchom Chandra, Khangembam Ibeton and Ranjit Singh Irungba who served as the past presidents of SHEIPAL were also felicitated.
