Imphal, June 26:
Former Vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh, Sharda Devi has been appointed as the new President of the BJP Manipur Pradesh. National General Secretary of the BJP Arun Singh in an order issued on June 20 appointed Sharda Devi as the President of the State BJP with immediate effect.
Sharda Devi, wife of Aribam Jashobanta of Bamon Leikai, have served the BJP at different capacity both at National and state level. She had served as the executive member of the National BJP Mahila Morcha and she was later appointed state executive member of the BJP during the tenure of K Bhavananda.
Later in the current term, Sharda Devi has been appointed as the Vice president of the state BJP under Prof. S. Tikendra as President. However, after Professor S. Tikendra succumbed to Covid-19 on May 13 this year, Sharda Devi has been appointed as the new President of the Manipur BJP.
Meanwhile, reports from New Delhi said that the Top BJP Leaders are discussing poll preparations for Assembly Elections that is likely to be held in 5 States in 2022
A report at NDTV said that BJP president JP Nadda and Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Narendra Singh Tomar, Smriti Irani, and Kiren Rijiju were among those who attended the meeting, party leaders said.
“Preparation for the assembly polls in five states was the main agenda of the meeting,” a party leader said after the meeting.
Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur, and Goa are slated for early next year.
The BJP is in power in all these states except Punjab and has been holding a series of meetings of its senior leaders as it works to put up an impressive show in the next round of elections.
