The Election Commission of India (ECI) has designated Shailesh Kumar Chourasia, IAS (MN:2007), as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) for the state of Manipur. The appointment was formalised through Notification No. 154/MR/2025-P.Admn., issued by the Secretariat of the Election Commission of India on August 6, 2025.
The appointment was made under the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 13A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. Chourasia will take over the charge with immediate effect and will continue in office until further orders.
As per the notification, once he assumes the role of CEO, Chourasia will cease to hold any other charges or assignments under the Government of Manipur. The notification further clarifies that during his tenure as Chief Electoral Officer, he shall not be assigned any additional responsibilities, except as Secretary to the Government in charge of the Election Department in the State Secretariat.
