Imphal, March 12:
Acting on reliable intelligence from the 46 Assam Rifles (AR) and 2 MAHAR Regiment, a joint operation was conducted in the Wangoo Laipham Awang Chingya and Warukok Hill range. The operation, carried out from 6:30 AM to 9:15 AM, was led by multiple security units, including the CDO Unit Kakching, Assam Rifles, BSF, and the 2 MAHAR Regiment, under the overall supervision of Superintendent of Police, Kakching, Smt. Priyadarshini Laishram, MPS.
The combined team comprised personnel from the CDO Unit Kakching, led by DSP (Ops) L. Bedhajit Singh, MPS, and assisted by Subedar S. Birla Singh, OC/CDO Unit Kakching. Also participating were Inspector N. Jatishwar Singh, OC Wangoo PS; a team of 46 AR led by Major Shivam Sachan; a column from 2 MAHAR Regiment led by Major Aditya Jain; and a team from the 131 Bn BSF led by KS Nautiyal. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Shri Binoy Chongtham, MPS, Addl SP (Ops), Kakching.
During the search, security forces discovered a cache of arms and explosives concealed in a white Super PP bag hidden in bushes at Wangoo Laipham Awang Chingya and Warukok Hill. The recovered items included an SMG Carbine with body number 16012179, a Single Barrel Rifle with body number 54Y3EA, a modified .303 Rifle, and a revolver marked “Made in USA.” Various live ammunition rounds, high-explosive grenades, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were also found. Additionally, a Baofeng Handset, several tear smoke shells, and anti-riot equipment were recovered.
A case has been registered at Wangoo Police Station, and further investigations are underway.
