Sewage pumping work blamed for prolonged flooding in Nongmeibung

Locals of Nongmeibung in Imphal East have blamed the ongoing sewage pumping station work by Keystone Infra Private Limited for blocking waterways and causing severe waterlogging in the area for over a week. Residents said the flooding worsened after continuous rains since September 12.
The affected areas include Ward No. 21 of Wangkhei Assembly Constituency, particularly Wangkhei Angom Leikai, and parts of Kongpal Mutum Leikai in Kshetrigao Assembly Constituency. Residents recalled that the same localities had experienced flooding earlier due to poor drainage facilities.
According to locals, floodwater that usually drained into the Kongba River through an outlet on the southern side of Kongpal Mutum Leikai was obstructed by the construction work. They also alleged that parts of the main drainage have been blocked by individuals encroaching upon the system, further worsening the situation.
Residents have appealed to the concerned department and government authorities to urgently intervene and resolve the issue.
