Several areas inundated, Nambul and Imphal rivers rise following continuous rainfall

Continuous rainfall over the past few days has led to a sharp rise in the water levels of major rivers in Manipur, including the Nambul and Imphal Rivers, causing widespread flooding and severe hardship in several localities. Poor drainage systems have further aggravated the situation, resulting in inundation of residential areas across the valley.
At Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency, several homes in Konchak Makha Leikai have been submerged by overflowing rainwater. According to RK Roben, a resident of the area, this has become a recurring crisis, with their locality getting flooded two to three times every year. “Every year, during the rainy season, we are forced to leave our homes and seek refuge in safer places,” he said, expressing frustration at the inaction of the concerned authorities.
Despite the regular occurrence of such floods, residents claim that no significant steps have been taken by local representatives or government agencies to address the issue. Roben further pointed out that the local MLA appears to be unaware—or indifferent—to the hardships faced by the people during the monsoon season.
Currently, many houses are without usable water sources as wells and ponds have become contaminated. Some families have reported health problems due to poor sanitation and lack of access to clean water. In certain households, members are unable even to take medication as there is no drinking water available. Cooking has also become impossible due to the water crisis.
