The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences(RIMS),the premier medical institute of the Northeast with its headquarters at Imphal today inaugurated 50-bedded Covid care/Infectious Diseases Centre along with PSA(Pressure Swing Adsorption) oxygen generator & refilling station and Covid care private ward at its campus.
Director Prof A Santa of RIMS, Medical Superintendent Prof Nepram Sanjib Singh and Prof Brogen Singh Akoijam were present at the inaugural function.
During the day’s function, a hospital record department and a store house for condemned materials were also inaugurated by the Director Prof Santa led officials.
Later addressing a gathering inside the new 50-bedded Covid care centre Prof A Santa said that the new separate Covid care centre will help a lot in terms of providing the services to the patients besides enhacing the health workers.
“The opening of such a Covid care block is very useful for us and public because when the Covid patients were admitted to the main hospital, the main hospital was collapsed because there are so many protocols,”says Prof Santa.
Earlier the Covid patients occupied half of the Surgery ward in the main hospital and it created many problems.The new Covid block is away from the main hospital.
Interestingly the RIMS will be having a separate power supply within the current month to meet the increasing power demands of the health care institute. The institute is also making certain efforts for its sustainable water uses.
Since its establishment, the 50 year-old institute has so far produced a total of 3,656 doctors including 2101 specialist doctors, 75 clinical psychologists, 157 dental surgeons and 300 BSc nurses.
Interestingly the OPD (Out-Patient department) attendance jumped to 7.67 lakh patients which recorded a 94% increase over the previous year figure.1.3 lakh patients were treated in the casualty.
