Security measures tighten ahead of Independence Day celebration

Security measures across the state has been beefed up ahead of Independence day celebration as news reports said that various rebel group in the state have been calling boycott.

To make sure that the 71st Independence Day is celebrated with much fanfare the State Police has conducted cordon and search operation since the last couple of days at many places to flush out or nab any anti social element which are threats to the state.

Today too the state police conducted cordon and search operation at many places.

In  Imphal West district, cordon and search operation (CASO) was conducted at North A.O.C. and Minuthong area. During the operation, about 225 male and 116 female were verified. Out of them 16 males and 6 females were picked for further verification and were handed over to Imphal police station.

 During the operation, hotels, rented houses and other places were checked. The Imphal West police team was led by Additional Superintendent of Police (OPS), Th. Krishnatombi Singh. Women police personnel were also present during the operation and was conducted from 4:30 am to 6:15 am.

In  Imphal East district, a combine team of Sawombung Commando and Village Defence Force conducted house to house search operation at Pourabi Makha from 5:30 am to 6:10 am, around 30 houses were searched and members were verified. During the operation, 25 males and 22 females were verified but no one was apprehended. The operation was led by sub-inspector, B. Debson and conducted under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police, Imphal East, M. Kumarjit Singh.

House to house search operation was also conducted at Kongpal Kshetri Leikai by combine team of Commando and Imphal East district police from 6:00 am to 7:00 am under the supervision of Superintendent of Police, Imphal East, K. Meghachandra. No one was apprehended during the operation. During the search operation conducted in the morning today by Imphal East district police at Mahabali Haokip Bank, Imphal East district additional SP, M. Kumarjit said that the operation is conducted as a precautionary measure and to celebrate the Independence Day celebration in a peaceful manner. He said that during the search operation, about 725 people were verified after checking 521 males and 204 females. 22 people who were not able to show identification cards were apprehended. He added that for verification, the apprehended persons were handed over to the police station concerned.

In Bishnupur district, cordon and search operations were conducted today from 5 am to 6 am at Bishnupur ward number 8, 9 and 11. The operation was conducted by district commando team led by officer-in-charge of the district, B. Lungthang Vaiphei. About 53 houses were searched and 171 persons were verified, no one was apprehended.

 The search operation will be conducted on regular basis on various part of the district till the day of celebration of Independence Day, added Additional SP of Imphal East.
