Security Forces recover over 50 weapons in joint operations across various districts

Imphal, Sept 3:

In a series of coordinated operations, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Manipur Police and other security forces, successfully recovered a significant cache of weapons and warlike stores across various districts of Manipur. A statement by IGAR (South) said that the joint operations was conducted between August 28 and September 1, 2024. Explosive detection dogs, metal detectors, and other state-of-the-art equipment were reportedly used in the operation.
The IGAR (South) statement said that on August 28, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police, acting on specific intelligence, launched a search operation in the Sekmaijin area of Kakching District. The operation was reported to have led to the recovery of a variety of weapons, including a Sten Mk V rifle, two 12-bore single-barrel rifles, two 9mm pistols, nine hand grenades, and other warlike stores.
It was also reported that on August 30, another intelligence-driven operation was conducted in the Kangpokpi district, specifically in the general area of Changsang near Sagolmang and Ekau Mullam near Saikul. The operation allegedly resulted in the recovery of a Soviet rifle, a locally made rifle, a bolt-action rifle, a .22 pistol, an improvised mortar, six “Pompis,” and additional warlike stores.
The IGAR (South) statement further said that on September 1, multiple joint operations were launched based on credible intelligence concerning the presence of arms and ammunition in the Manipur R Corridor, Molnom-Senam Hills, and Saivom Hills, covering the districts of Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, and Chandel. These operations reportedly led to the recovery of a 51mm mortar, an MA-3 Mk-II rifle, an AK-47, two Lathode guns, a .303 rifle, six 9mm pistols, seven single-barrel 12-bore guns, two .22 rifles, twelve single-barrel 12-bore guns, eleven “Pompi” guns, 49 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), grenades, tear gas shells, ammunition, and additional warlike stores.
The joint operations have resulted in the recovery of over 50 weapons, all of which were handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation and security measures, the statement added.
