Security Forces destroy illegal bunkers at Mark Hill Range, Kangpokpi

Kangpokpi, Mar 1:

Combined troops of Kangpokpi district police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) today conducted an operation at the Mark Hill range in Kangpokpi district, dismantling bunkers constructed by Kuki village volunteers. This marks the second such drive in recent days to clear illegal fortifications in the region.
Earlier, on the morning of February 27, security forces had carried out a similar operation along National Highway (NH) 102, between Kanglatombi and Kangpokpi. During that operation, six Kuki village volunteers were arrested for attempting to obstruct the security personnel in their efforts to remove the bunkers.
The crackdown comes in response to the Manipur Chief Secretary’s assurance of reopening the state’s highways by deploying adequate security forces. NH 102, a crucial lifeline for the state, has been occupied by Kuki armed groups, restricting the movement of the Meitei community. There have also been multiple reports of illegal taxation imposed on vehicles plying the route, further exacerbating the hardship faced by commuters.
Security forces have intensified operations in the area to ensure safe passage for all travelers and restore law and order. More such drives are expected in the coming days as part of efforts to reclaim highways from unlawful control.
