Educational institutions in the state, especially in the twin districts of Imphal resume classes with low attendance from today after being shut for almost two months due to the JCILPS agitation demanding implementation of ILPS in Manipur to protect the indigenous people of the state. During the agitation one student of Ananda Singh Higher secondary academy, Sapam Robinhood was killed by the state force on August 8. After that incident Manipur government shut down the schools, colleges to prevent any unwanted incidents. State government ordered the resumption of classes from September 4 but was forced to shut down again the same day as violence broke out.
The decision to resume classes came after the government passed 3 bills at the special session of state assembly, and the day after the last rites of Sapam Robinhood were performed at Awa ching with the participation of thousands of public.
When our reporter visited a few schools, most of the government run schools and colleges were found  with minimum student in the class, most disappointing being Khurai Lamlong Higher Secondary School with just a single student in a class and three students in another. However in private schools attendance was good as usual.
One of the students of Churachand Singh Higher Secondary school, Yumnam Ramesh said that as students it’s their right to attend the class, and feel very happy to resume class again after two months and worried about covering up their school syllabus in the short time remaining. He further added that if the state government arranged settlement with JCILPS in the early hours then we might not have lost this amount of precious time.
