Imphal, Nov 27:

The Supreme Court’s double bench has dismissed a petition challenging the Manipur High Court’s August 30, 2023, ruling against BJP MLA Sanasam Premchandra Singh of Kumbi Assembly Constituency.
The case originated when Ahanthem Shanjoy Singh, who had contested the 2022 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election on a JDU ticket and secured the second position, filed an election petition in the Manipur High Court challenging Premchandra’s victory. On August 30, the High Court issued an order against Premchandra, which was subsequently challenged by him in the Supreme Court.
A double bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Justice M.M. Sundresh and Justice Aravind Kumar, reviewed the case on November 25 and dismissed the appeal. The Court found no substantial grounds to interfere with the High Court’s ruling and observed no evident error or irregularity in the decision.
The judges concluded that Premchandra’s appeal lacked merit, stating that all relevant legal references cited by the High Court had been carefully considered. Consequently, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s order and dismissed the petition.
