Troops of 20 Assam Rifles F Coy yesterday arrested two persons including a woman while trying to smuggle sandal wood along Imphal-Moreh road on Wednesday. The two were reportedly smuggled from Myanmar through Imphal-Moreh route in a Maruti van bearing registration number MN 01 – W 4277. The two persons arrested are identified as Mala Devi (40 yrs), wife of Bhakti Singh of Khongjom under Wangjing Police Station in Thoubal district and Lethlolun Khongsai (34), son of Jamkromang Khangsai of Moreh Ward No. 9. The later was reportedly the driver of the van. The seized items and the smugglers were handed over to Imphal Forest Department, said an AR source.
