The South Asian Institute of Rural and Agricultural Management (SAIRAM) organised a one-day multidisciplinary awareness program on Scientific Crop Production at Awangkhunou Mayai Leikai Community Hall yesterday. The training program was inaugurated by Dr. Ph. Ibomcha Sharma, A.O. SAIRAM.
Dr. Ph. Ibomcha, in his opening address, highlighted the pivotal role and functions of SAIRAM’s Extension unit in empowering practicing farmers, farm women, Self-Help Group (SHG) members, and rural youth. He articulated the imperative of disseminating scientific knowledge and innovative agricultural practices to enhance productivity and sustainability.
Dr. N. Arunkumar Singh, Assistant Professor, provided an insightful discourse on nursery management, seed treatment, planting techniques, weed control, and the prudent application of chemical fertilizers in rice production. His presentation emphasized the critical aspects of modern agronomy and sustainable farming practices.
Dr. Janita Thokchom, Associate Professor, expounded on the identification of beneficial and harmful insects, alongside integrated pest and disease management strategies for rice crops. Her session aimed to equip farmers with the knowledge to effectively mitigate crop losses and enhance yields through ecological pest control methods.
The program witnessed the participation of 29 farm women and practicing farmers.
