RIST to confer distinguished scientist award to Prof. Jayanta Manoharmayum

The Research Institute of Science and Technology (RIST), Manipur, has announced that it will honour Prof. Jayanta Manoharmayum, a renowned mathematician based in the United Kingdom, with the “RIST Distinguished Scientist Award 2025.” The decision was made during the Executive Council Meeting of RIST held on July 16, 2025, where members unanimously resolved to institute the award to recognize outstanding research contributions in science and mathematics by scientists from Manipur working within the country and abroad.
The award is intended to celebrate excellence in research and to encourage young minds to pursue scientific innovation. RIST stated that Prof. Jayanta Manoharmayum, currently serving at the School of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Sheffield, will be conferred the award for his significant contributions in the field of Number Theory—particularly in deformation theory and representation of profinite groups. His work includes the successful resolution of the inverse deformation problem and developing methods to lift Galois representations to characteristic zero for GL™ .
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on July 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Conference Hall of the Department of Physics, Manipur University.
