The frequency of toll tax post along the Mayai lambi road has angered the drivers of the passenger vehicles plying along the route. Transporter’s body urged concern authority to look into the authenticity of the mushrooming toll tax post along the route by November 7 and threatened to down steering if the authority fails to do so.Speaking to media persons today in a press conference at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, Huidrom Mangi, President, Thongkhong Luxmi Bazar Driver cum Owners’ Union said all the passenger vehicles driving from Wabagai to Waheng Leikai faced tremendous inconveniences in managing tax for four different toll tax centres. The passenger drivers did not mind in paying taxes at the Mayang Imphal and Heirangoithong toll tax posts but they do not feel justify in paying toll tax to the newly installed toll tax post at Wangoi and Samurou.Huidrom Mangi said that the distance between Wangoi and Samurou is hardly 2 kilometres and it is not appropriate to have two toll tax posts at such a close proximity.Seeking clarification from concern authority regarding the collection of toll tax for every municipal council, Mangi said that Wangoi Panchayat has not yet been converted into a Municipal Council to collect toll tax.Mangi further said that the union has sent seeking clarification regarding the matter to all the concerned Councillors, Pradhan members and police officers but no response has been given so far. They have also complained against the matter to the secretary of Mayai Lambi Joint Passenger Transport Committee but no concerns has been shown by the authority said Mangi. The union demanded to all the concerned authorities to solve the matter by Nov 07 and if failed to do so all the passenger vehicles running from Wabagai to Waheng Leikai will remain off the road and appealed all fellow drivers and owners to comply with the union’s decision, added Mangi.
