Imphal, June 22: Nursing staffs of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences staged a sit in protest against the physical assault on one staff by MLA K Meghachandra Singh yesterday night. Speaking to media persons the spokesperson of NTEWA, RIMS Laishram Ranbir said that the incident happened when two staffs were on night duty yesterday. At around 9:30 pm the MLA of Wangkhem AC K. Meghachandra singh was coming to visit a patient of the PMR ward.
He further added that according to hospital rules no visitors are allowed to enter after 6 PM to visit any patient of the PMR ward which is also clearly displayed on the notice board of the ward for general information. He further added that due information was also being conveyed to the MLA about the existing rule. In the meantime a telephone call from the chief security officer of RIMS to allow him to visit the patient was received.
He further added that when the staff tried to contact Prof & Head Dr N Romi singh by phone about the matter but there were no response after which he contacted Dr. L Nilachandra singh who observed that the MLA be allowed entry in view of his status.
He further added that after meeting the patient the MLA turned to the staff and asked to stand before him. Then the MLA enquired the staff his identity and twisted and vigorously shook both ears of the staff.
The spokesperson further appealed to the concern authority to bring a solution immediately with the staffs and MLA failing which cease work and other forms of strikes will follow.
