RIMS observe World Blood Donor Day 2026

The Department of Transfusion Medicine, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, in collaboration with the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC), Manipur, today observed World Blood Donor Day 2026 at the OPD Complex, RIMS, under the global theme “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.”

The function was graced by Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal, as the Chief Guest; Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, Imphal, as the President; and Prof. L. Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academics), RIMS, Imphal, as the Guest of Honour.

Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma and Prof. N. Sanjib Singh donated blood during the observance, inspiring participants and reinforcing the importance of voluntary blood donation.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, highlighted the theme of this year’s observance, “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.”, and highlighted that every unit of donated blood has the potential to save multiple lives, including those of accident victims, mothers with obstetric emergencies, children with blood disorders, and patients undergoing major surgeries or cancer treatment. He urged the public, especially the youth, to become regular voluntary blood donors and support this noble humanitarian cause.

101 voluntary donors from different walks of life donated blood at the Department of Transfusion Medicine (New Block). Certificates of appreciation were presented to the donors, and a pledge promoting regular voluntary blood donation was administered.

The programme was attended by the Principal of the Dental College, Heads of Departments (HODs), CAO/FA, nursing officials, staff, students, and personnel from CRED and MSS, RIMS, Imphal.
