RIMS furnished wrong report, sent patient to AIMS

Cases of inefficiency and unsystematic working culture never seem to end at the premier medical institute in the state. Yet another case surfaced which is bound to further deteriorate the already tattered reputation of RIMS. In a press meet held at the Manipur Press Club today, family members of one Lourembam Iberani (29), D/o Dhananjoy of Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai disclosed that Iberani, a patient of Dr. AK Kaku of Urology Dept, RIMS was diagnosed with a damaged right kidney according to the Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP) report furnished by the radiology department of RIMS on June 15, and was recommended further treatment at AIMS, Delhi. Accordingly, Iberani was taken to AIMS and was admitted on June 29 with the required operation on the defective right kidney scheduled for July 1. However, a mandatory verification test of the reports from RIMS by doctors at AIMS just before the operation revealed that the right kidney of Iberani was perfectly normal, leading to an intensive investigation on the anomaly by the authorities at AIMS. The investigation led to the finding that the IVP report bearing no. 4881 handed over by the Radiology Dept of RIMS was, in fact, not the result of the test carried out on Iberani, and that the actual report should be the one numbered 4851. The Head of Department, Urology, RIMS have also admitted to the blunder and have reportedly agreed to compensate a part of the expenditure incurred by Iberani and her family in trying to get treatment at AIMS. Speaking to the media, family members of Iberani urged the RIMS authorities to ensure such unfortunate incidents does not repeat itself in the future, and expressed indignation at the utter negligence and evident lack of responsibility and efficiency, even when the institute is presently reeling under scandals and allegations of negligence and mismanagement.
