RIMS biomedical waste incinerator inaugurated

IMPHAL, Aug 20

A biomedical waste incinerator having an installed capacity of 105 kilogram per hour was formally inaugurated at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) premises in Imphal today.
Union minister of state for external affairs and education Dr RK Ranjan Singh, Director Prof A Santa Singh,Medical Superintendent Prof H Priyoshakhi Devi of RIMS and other officials were present during the day’s inauguration event.
Later a grand reception functions of Union minister Dr RK Ranjan Singh was also held at the mini auditorium of the institute.
Speaking on the occasion, Union minister Dr Ranjan suggested to introduce Japanese and Korean languages in the syllabus of the nursing school of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal to excel their profession abroad in nursing care.
Union minister Dr Ranjan was speaking at a grand reception function at the RIMS mini auditorium here minutes after the formal inauguration of a biomedical waste incinerator at the Institute.
Dr Ranjan also expressed his desire to have the concept of green buildings which could preserve natural resources and improve quality of life, while taking up new construction activities at RIMS campus.
The 69 year old geography professor turned politician also narrated a brief history about the establishment of RIMS in the early seventies.
Earlier in his welcome and keynote Director Prof A Santa Singh of RIMS highlighted some of the remarkable development activities apart from the ongoing efforts taken up by the health professionals of RIMS in handling the Covid 19 treatment.
He said the maximum number of Covid patients were admitted (2212) and discharged (1278) from the institute among all the major hospitals in the state in the second wave (April to July)of Covid 19 this year. At the same the number of deaths due to Covid 19 at RIMS is low, he stated.
