RIMS bans campus bypass traffic from November 1

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has announced using its campus as a bypass or transit route from November 1, citing security concerns following reported incidents on the premises.

In a notice, the RIMS authority cited an alleged attempt on the life of a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student, frequent thefts involving institute property, and the unauthorised use of open areas for consuming intoxicants.

The restriction will limit campus access to patients, their attendants, doctors, healthcare professionals, institute staff and others with legitimate reasons to visit RIMS.

The authority said the measure was intended to strengthen security, regulate vehicular movement and safeguard students, patients, staff and institute property.

Doctors, faculty members and other authorised personnel have been asked to carry valid institutional identity cards and display or produce vehicle passes wherever required. The public has been urged to cooperate and avoid using the campus as a shortcut.
