Retd. Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court RK Manisana passes away

Imphal, Jan 8: Retd. Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court Rajkumar Manisana passed away today morning at Shija Hospital at around 10.30 am. He was 86 years old. Report said that he was admitted to Imphal hospital after sustaining a minor head injury after falling from his chair at his home on January 6, 2015 at around 5.30 pm. Later he was referred to RIMS hospital and then as doctors at RIMS suspect head injury, he was again referred to Shija Hospital where he succumbed to his injury.

Rajkumar Maisana began his career by enrolling as an advocate on 15/7/1958. He belong to a family of the royal descendents of ruling class of the erstwhile monarchy of Manipur. From 19/10/1972 to 20/10/1974 , RK Manisana served as the Government Advocate cum Public Prosecutor of Manipur and later appointed as the advocate general of Manipur government on November 29, 1979.

He was sworn in as the judge f the Guwahati High Court on November 21, 1984, later he became the Chief Justice of the same court on January 24, 1994.

He was also the Chairman of the Assam Human Rights Commission from January 2, 2002 till he attained 70 years of age. He also served as the Chairman of the NSA.

The former Chief justice also served as the chairman of the two wage board – one for working journalists and the other for Non-Journalist news paper and News agency employees.

Various renowned personality including the chief justice and judges of the Manipur High court, Advocate general, other district and session judges, advocates paid tribute to the mortal remain of the renowned person who expired today.
