Jiribam, Oct 15:

The restriction imposed to the Kuki community in Jiribam, following a controversial incident involving a Meitei driver of Apex Company and an unidentified individual from the Kuki community in Tatbung, Tousem Sub-Division on October 12, has been lifted. This decision comes after a meeting between Civil Society Organizations representing both communities.
In a press conference held at the Leeching, Jiri office, W. Dinesh Meetei, President of Leeching, Jiri, announced that the restrictions, which had the potential to affect the movement of the Kuki community in Jiribam District, have been lifted. The resolution was reached after two rounds of meetings involving community leaders, the Superintendent of Police for Jiribam District, the Commanding Officer of the 39th Assam Rifles, and village chieftains.
It was emphasized that an amicable solution was reached with the condition that there will be no threats or disturbances to the movement of people from any community along NH-37, from Jiribam to New Kaiphundai. Both sides also committed to avoiding any provocations in the future. In the event of any unfortunate incidents, efforts will be made to resolve them amicably without creating controversy.”
The Press meet was attended by W. Dinesh Meetei, President, Leeching Jiri; L. Ranjan Meetei, Secretary, Leeching and S. Sainik Meetei, Commander, South Zone of Leeching, Jiri.
