Residents block Khangabok road to protest its deteriorating condition

Residents of Khangabok staged a road blockade on Wednesday morning in protest against the state government’s continued neglect of the deteriorating road leading from National Highway-102 to the Commando Complex in the eastern part of the area.
Despite repeated appeals and assurances from local leaders, including the constituency MLA and former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, the vital stretch of road remains in disrepair. The protesters said the road is crucial not only for the people of Khangabok but also for residents of Heiyel Labuk village.
Speaking to reporters, one of the protesting women said the road has become nearly impassable, particularly affecting school-going children and patients needing urgent medical attention. “During the rainy season, the road floods easily. In dry weather, the deep potholes cause accidents. Several schoolchildren have fallen and injured themselves on the way to school,” she said.
The aggrieved locals also lamented that multiple written appeals to elected representatives have yielded no result, forcing them to resort to the road blockade as a last resort to attract the attention of the authorities.
The protesters declared that the blockade would continue until the concerned departments take immediate steps to repair the road and ensure safe passage for commuters.
