A remote controlled explosive device planned in front of the main gate of 40AR, D-Coy company at lilong was recovered by the AR troop today morning. The IED weigh around 5kg was found at the road side of Imphal-Moreh route wrapped in a polythene bag at around 6.30am.
The Assam Rifle troop along with a police team halted traffic at both end of the route-i.e at Lilong Lamkhai and Ussoipokpi area from 7am till the IED was safely retrieve at around 11am by bomb squad team. The IED was later safely detonated at the Assam Riffle’s firing range at Thoubal Khunou.
Mention may be made that unknown person blasted a hand grenade at the same post at around 7.20pm yesterday. However no one was injured. In November, last year a minor boy was killed after an IED was blasted at a paddy field just behind the AR post.
According to a personnel of the 40AR post, early today morning a person came at the main entrance of the 40AR camp at Lilong and informed the AR Jawan on duty about the presence of the polythene bag containing battery at the other side of the road. After telling that the person reportedly move away quickly. The AR troop could not found him as it was thickly foggy today morning.
No individuals or UG group has claimed responsibility of the planting of the IED.
