Relay hunger strike enters fifth day in protest against Jiribam killings

IT News
Imphal, Nov 20:

The relay hunger strike initiated under the aegis of the Uripok Apunba Lup in protest against the cold-blooded murder of six civilians, including an 8-month-old infant, has entered its fifth consecutive day. Today, women from Uripok Khaidem Leikai took up the mantle, continuing the hunger strike.
Addressing media personnel, a woman protestor expressed deep dissatisfaction with the government’s inaction, stating that Prime Minister Modi’s “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign has lost all significance in Manipur. She emphasized that the Uripok Apunba Lup would persist with the strike and voiced concern over the lack of unity among mass organizations in mounting effective protests against the killings.
Meanwhile, Dr. Yaikhomba Taorem, MD and Consultant Pediatrician, along with staff and students of Angel Children Hospital, Uripok Achom Leikai, strongly condemned the heinous act. The six civilians, including three children, were allegedly killed by Kuki militants on November 15, following five days of captivity beginning November 11.
Speaking out, Dr. Taorem decried the inhumanity of the act, particularly lamenting the psychological impact such violence would have on children. In solidarity, the hospital staff and students staged a sit-in protest in front of the hospital premises, expressing grief and demanding justice for the victims.
