Red Cross distributes relief to hailstorm-hit families in Bishnupur

The Indian Red Cross Society, Bishnupur District Branch, today distributed emergency relief materials to families whose houses were damaged by the severe hailstorm that struck parts of the district.
The storm, accompanied by strong winds, caused extensive damage to several houses in areas under Thanga Assembly Constituency. Among the affected households were those of Khwairakpam Thoiba (65) of Sajor Thanga Ngaram Khwairakpam Leirak in Thanga Ngarang and Tongbram Atumbi (68) of Damu locality in Ithing Khola.
Volunteers of the Red Cross visited the affected families and distributed tarpaulins and hygiene kits as immediate relief assistance.
Meanwhile, heavy hailstones measuring more than two inches reportedly fell around 1:12 pm in several areas of Bishnupur district, including the district headquarters. The hailstorm damaged houses by blowing away tin roofs and also caused losses to crops in different localities.
Relief teams also visited localities including Bishnupur, Khoijuman and Ngaikhong Khullen, where tarpaulins were provided to families whose houses were damaged by the storm.
The relief distribution was carried out by a team led by Dr. H. Romen and Treasurer M. Ibohanbi along with committee members S. Rakeshkumar, K. Debajit, L. Rina and Kh. Budha, who visited the affected areas and handed over the relief materials to the victims.
