Re-poll in some polling stations likely where EVM were destroyed

The Election Commission is likely to take a decision on re-polling to as many as 9 polling stations where clashes were reported and EVM machines were destroyed. Report said that those polling stations include Songsang Mission School, Maite ME School, and Tinsuong ME School in the Thanlon (ST) Assembly Constituency; Majuron Kuki, Khoirentak, Molsang, Leinom in the Henglep (ST) Assembly Constituency; and Teikot and Maukot in the Singhat (ST) Assembly Constituency and one at Khundrakpam Assembly constituency.
The first phase of polling for the Manipur Assembly Elections took place on Monday (February 28). As the voting was taking place, several reports of clashes and proxy voting emerged from parts of the state.
FIRs were registered in the incidents of EVM damage in seven polling stations, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajesh Agarwal was quoted by news an agency.
At least one person was injured in a clash between two political parties in Churachandpur district. An EVM was damaged, and it was later replaced.
Moreover, BJP supporters allegedly destroyed EVM machines at Polling stations at Khundrakpam assembly constituency while Congress workers allegedly vandalised a polling booth in Kakwa area in Langthabal constituency in Imphal West district.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Secular Progressive Front – the alliance of 6 political parties including Congress, CPI, CPI (M), and others had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur urging for a re-poll in the 9 Assembly Constituencies of Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts in connection with the intimidatory statement issued by the banned outfit KNO, which has resulted in the destruction of the free and fair election.
