Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) organized a protest rally at Kakching demanding for the educational institutions in the state to be made disturbance free zone. The rally, organized for Thoubal District saw the participation of more than 7000 volunteers from various educational institutions with placards displaying slogans such as ‘make education a disturbance free zone’, ‘let’s keep education first’, ‘exempt education related persons from bandh, blockade’, ‘stop pressuring officials of educational institutes and department by armed individuals or groups’, ‘avoid corruption in all education related matters’, ‘education should be treated as an essential service’, ‘we demand state education policy’ and ‘education budget should be increased’. The rally was flagged off from Kakching higher secondary school by SDO of Kakching Block Th Chittaranjan Singh and terminated at the JNURM Community Hall at Kakching Sumak Leikai where a public meeting was held passing through Kakching Bazar. Mayengbam Manilal Singh, ZEO Zone-III Thoubal Block, M Angamba Meitei, President DESAM HQ, Th Charanjit Singh, SDO Kakching Block, Y Shamu Singh, ZEO Zone-III Kakching Block, M Memcha Devi, CDPO ICDS Project, Kakching Block, Sh Nimai Singh President AMESTA Kakching Block, Samadram Shamu Singh, President AMESTA Thoubal Block, Ksh Chaoba Singh Chairman, CBSE Monitoring Committee Manipur, Khundrakpam Menjor Mangang, Advisor, Thoubal District Private Schools Development Council and Tourangbam Anita Devi CDPO ICDS Project Thoubal Block were the presidium members at the gathering. The rally is part of the drive by DESAM to make education a disturbance free zone since 2008 and will be taken out in other districts of the state as well.
