Protests continued across several parts of the Manipur Valley, with demonstrators demanding justice in connection with the Tronglaobi incident in which two minor children were killed and their mother seriously injured.
At Bashikhong Bazar, women’s groups and local organisations staged a sit-in protest condemning the violence at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district. The demonstration, involving women and children, was jointly organised by the Meira Association Bashikhong and the Bashikhong Meira Nupi Welfare Association.
Speaking at the protest, secretary Thokchom Cheibi said the agitation was in response to the bomb blast that occurred on the night of April 6 and 7 at a residential house, resulting in the deaths of two children and critical injuries to their mother. She said the incident triggered widespread outrage, leading to protests in the area. During the unrest, personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) reportedly opened fire, causing the deaths of three civilians and injuring several others.
She called for accountability and urged the ruling government to step down on moral grounds. She also questioned the response of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the situation.
Meanwhile, a separate protest was held at Keikol Community Hall in Imphal East district, jointly organised by the Keikol Youth Development Club and Keikol Meira Paibi, condemning the Tronglaobi attack.
Yesterday evening, torch rallies were carried out in several areas, including Keishamthong in Imphal West district. Demonstrations were also held at Wangoi and Thongkhong Laxmi Bazar, where local clubs and Meira Paibi groups formed human chains. Protesters raised slogans demanding justice for the victims, punishment of those involved in the incident, and action against personnel allegedly responsible for firing on civilian demonstrators.
