Protest staged against indiscriminate firing

A group of unidentified persons allegedly fired gunshots from an unknown location at the residence of Sarungbam Herojit at Samurou Naorem Chaprou Awang Leikai at around 11.30 pm on September 28, prompting local women to stage a protest against such acts.

The protest meeting was organised by the Samurou Naorem Apunba Meira Paibi at the Samurou Naorem Chaprou Awang Leikai Community Hall, where women raised concerns over the firing incident and called for an end to indiscriminate firing in residential areas.

Placards carrying messages against firing in residential areas and appeals to refrain from disturbing peaceful residents were displayed during the protest.

Speaking during the programme, Samurou Naorem Apunba Meira Paibi Secretary Oinam Chaoba Chanu condemned the firing incident and urged people not to resort to gunfire in residential areas.

She said the incident had caused concern among residents and appealed to the meira paibi groups in the locality to remain vigilant and help prevent such incidents from recurring.

The organisers also urged those responsible to refrain from acts that could disturb peace and create fear among residents. They warned that continued incidents of this nature could further affect the peaceful atmosphere of the locality.
