Protest staged against brutal assault of shopkeeper; demands punishment of the culprits

Large number of people including local meira paibi and club members of Singjamei area today staged a sit-in-protest demanding punishment of culprits involved in the brutal assault of a shopkeeper inside his shop at Paona Keithel near Leima Shopping Center.

According to a  report, Thongam Premkumar @ Naocha (40 years) son of Th. Sharat of Singjamei Thongam Leikai, who run a shop near Leima Shopping in Paona keithel was brutally assaulted by a group of person on the evening of April 5 at around 10 pm. The miscreants numbering around 3 /3 person allegedly took away all the money kept at his shop as well as some of the valuables kept inside the shop.

Thongam Premkumar is presently undergoing treatment under serious condition at Shija Hospital ICU.
Sumati, Publicity Secretary of Singjamei Apunba Nupi Lup, which organised the sit-in-protest said that state law enforcing agency failure to arrest those miscreants involved in the brutal assault of the person is unfortunate as the incident happen in the middle of Imphal city where there is tight security. She said that such a crime is an organised crime and the victim was left thinking that he was dead. Demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the crime, Sumati said that Singjamei Apunba Nupi lup will intensify the agitation if the government fails to arrest and punish those involved in the crime.
