Protest staged against bomb threat: Calls for Justice and Security

IT News
Imphal, May 8:

A large number of womenfolk staged a sit-in protest in Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai area, denouncing the bomb threat posed to residents. The demonstration, orchestrated by the Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai Apunba Lup, served as a resounding call for justice and security within the community.
According to reports, unidentified individuals planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the residence of Sapam Romi in Singjamei Mayengbam Laikei, situated under the jurisdiction of Kakwa Police Station in Imphal West district. The discovery of the explosive was made by family members around midnight yesterday, prompting swift action from local authorities. A police team promptly responded to the incident and safely disposed of the bomb at approximately 4 am today.
Speaking to the press, Sapam Romi’s wife expressed bewilderment and dismay over the attack on their modest household. She emphasized her husband’s simple livelihood as an auto-rickshaw driver, questioning the rationale behind such a violent act. “Instead of resorting to violence, they could have sought dialogue to resolve any grievances,” she lamented. Highlighting the already challenging circumstances faced by the family, she recounted the recent devastation caused by hailstorms on May 5, which further compounded their difficulties.
Sapam Diparan, Secretary of the Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai Apunba Lup, echoed the sentiments of the protestors, demanding a thorough investigation and swift apprehension of those responsible for the bomb threat. She decried the apparent lack of law and order, asserting that the community’s safety and well-being should be paramount. “The current state of affairs suggests a concerning absence of vigilance from the authorities,” she remarked, emphasizing the urgent need for accountability and decisive action.
As tensions remain high in Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, the collective outcry from residents and community leaders underscores the imperative for effective measures to ensure peace and security for all.
