Protest staged against bomb attack to Minister Khemchand residence

Meia Paibis and locals of Yumnam Leikai today staged a sit-in protest at Yumnam Leikai in Imphal West protesting the bomb attack to the residence of RD & PR Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh. In the bomb attack by unknown miscreants at around 10 pm yesterday, one Sub Inspector or CRPF deployed as security at the Minister’s residence was injured and another 24-year-old girl Purnilisa, daughter of Minister Khemchand’s brother Yumnam Leader also injured at her left foot, a protestors told reporters.

The injured CRPF Sub Inspector has been identified as Dineshchandra Das (57 years) son of late Sureshwar Das of West Bengal. A splinter of the blast hit at his right hand. The bomb was allegedly lobbed by two unknown motorcycle-borne miscreants. The bomb blasted about 5 meters from the gate of the residence of Yumnam Khemchand Singh.
Talking to reporters, a leader of the Yumnam Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi Lup condemned the bomb attack on the civilian area. She said that locals of the area used to take a rest in the area where the miscreants blasted the bomb. It was lucky that no one was present at the site when the blast took place. She said that people in the area were panicked and shocked to learn that the daughter of Khemchand’s brother Yumnam Leader was also injured by the splinter of the blast.
“Instead of attacking the residential area those responsible should have talked with the Minister if they have any differences”, Meira Paibi told reporters.
