New Delhi, June 4:

Thousands of Manipuris thronged in to join a peace protest at Jantar Mantar today under the aegis of the Manipur Coordinating Committee Delhi (A conglomerate of 5-Delhi-based CSOs and Students Bodies) demanding immediate abrogation of the SoO (Suspension of Operation) Pact with the Kuki militants and bringing normalcy in the trouble-torn state of Manipur. Several speakers spoke on the impact of the rise of narco-terrorism in Manipur with the influx of illegal Kuki immigrants and the random killing of unarmed civilians by the Kuki militants.
Protestors carried placards that read ‘Stop Kuki Narco-Terrorism in Manipur’, ‘Save Manipur from Armed Kuki Immigrant Militants from Myanmar’, Save Manipur Save India’, ‘Stop Narco-Terrorism and External Aggression’, Stop Violence Meiteis are Peace Loving Community’, ‘Immediately Revoke SoO Agreement’, ‘STOP Poppy Plantation’, etc.
The rally held under the banner of Manipur Coordination Committee (Delhi), a conglomerate of Manipur CSOs & Student Organizations of Delhi, and supported by democratic groups from other parts of India, suggested a few points for the Government of India’s consideration. These points include Bringing back peace & harmony in Manipur.
The MCC said that the reality behind the façade of anti-reservation protest lies a web of well-crafted actions by a nexus of Kuki militants, frontal organisations, intellectuals, and politicians. The fact that even after 30 days when violence broke, several Meitei houses at Sugnu of Kakching district continued to be set on fire by Kuki militants on 3 June 2023.
