Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is a complete failure at Thoubal district. This was stated by Shagolsem Romesh Singh, Secretary, Thoubal District PMEGP Selected & Unsanction Beneficiaries Association of 2014 – 15 in a press release.
Romesh stated that the PMEGP scheme which was set up to reduce the problem of unemployment in the state by providing loans to the unemployed youths through three banks. However, Romesh added that the three banks at Thoubal neglected the flagship program and the PMEGP is a failure in the district. SBI-Thoubal branch, Axis Bank, Kakching, SBI-Kakching branch and Bank of India-Thoubal branch have rejected the proposals. The other banks which haven’t issued the sanction letter nor have sent back the proposal forms are UBI Thoubal, ICICI Thoubal branch, UBI Kakching, UCO Kakching branch and Over Seas Bank, Thoubal.
Under the flagship program, DIC Thoubal had sent proposal forms for 330 beneficiaries for the year of 2014-15 to all the nationalised and non nationalised banks of Thoubal. Out of the 330 proposed beneficiaries, 118 people got rejected and the proposal form was sent back to Thoubal DIC and other 150 beneficiaries neither got sanction nor were the forms sent back, added Romesh. Rejecting proposals by the banks mean the rights of the beneficiaries have been violated and the government must look into the matter, appealed Romesh.
