Press Council of India team calls on IPR Minister Th. Biswajit Singh

A visiting team of the Press Council of India consisting of Convener Jai Shanker, members Kamal Narang and Pradeep Kumar Jain called on Information & Public Relations Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh this morning at his Official Quarter, Sanjenthong.
In a brief discussion during the meeting, the PCI team highlighted certain suggestions to strengthen the media fraternity in the State.
Biswajit said that media is the fourth pillar of democracy and has an important role to play in safeguarding and building the nation towards peace and development. It is of utmost importance that news reports are balanced and not one-sided, he added.
The PCI team had earlier on March 24, called on the Director-General of Police of Manipur L.M. Khaute at Police Headquarter and also interacted with members of the All Manipur Working Journalists Union, Editors’ Guild Manipur and Manipur Hill Journalists’ Union at the Directorate Information and Public Relations Director’s office chamber.
It may be mentioned that a PCI team is in the State to evolve guidelines for the media and security forces on reporting in conflict situations and to organize activities particularly in the North-eastern States, Naxal affected areas, and Jammu & Kashmir.
