President of India, CM and Manipur Governor removed shoes while lighting inaugural lamp for Sangai Festival

Imphal, Nov 22: Among the rarest of the rare sight seen in state level function, President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, Governor of Manipur of Manipur Dr. Najama Heprula and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh were seen removing their shoes while lighting up the inaugural lamp of the Manipur Sangai festival at BOAT, her in Imphal yesterday evening.
In Manipuri culture it is a tradition and mark of respect to remove shoes while attending any ritual functions as well as when somebody enter the house of another.
Removing of shoes in such occasion is a mark of respect to the people.
Sangai festival being the largest festival of the state is blessed with the kind of respect shown by the VVIP including the president of India, said Dineshwori an audience.
Some months back Works Minister Bishwajit was also seen removing shoes while lighting the inaugural lamp of the Foundation Day of All Manipur Working Journalist Union at Manipur Press Club.
