PREPAK claims shooting of man for extortion using party’s name

Proscribed group People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) today claims responsibility for shooting of a person at leg. A statement by PREPAK said that on September 5, 2024, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the Special Task Force-1 of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) apprehended a man involved in extortion activities under the guise of the party’s name. The individual, identified as Meinam Avi Singh (40), is the son of M. Manigopal Singh (75) and Nolini Devi (70), from Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai.Avi Singh had been extorting civilians by falsely representing PREPAK, despite previous warnings to cease such activities. As a result, he was shot in the legs as a punishment.
In a statement released by PREPAK, the party warned that anyone involved in similar illegal actions would face severe consequences. The statement further emphasized that individuals who collaborated with Avi Singh are known to the party. They have been instructed to surrender or face even harsher punishments.
PREPAK has also called on the public to provide information about others engaged in such extortion schemes. They urged civilians to trust only official letters issued and signed by Changkhonba Meitei, the Revenue Chief of PREPAK’s Department of Finance.
